Direct Contact
When a virus infects an individual, anyone who come in contact with the infected individual will become infected, as the viruses will find its way through the broken skin of the individual.
As the infection is caused by numerous individuals coming in contact with the infected individual, it should go without saying that you should avoid coming in contact with the infected patient. Therefore, to be specific:

always make sure to wash your hand (with soap!) whenever you are given the chance,

avoid touching your mouth, nose, ears and eyes with your hands,
-
keep a distance from anyone who is sick.
