Blood Transmission
Some types of viruses are capable of firstly infecting the blood of the individual, which then infects the individual with the transfused blood. While it may seem unlikely that you would get your blood transfused, you should take a look at exactly what causes a blood transmission infection and how to avoid them.
As stated above, viruses can infect the blood which can then infect the transfused individual. Therefore, patients need to be wary of their surroundings when they are dealing with blood transfusion.
-
Always make sure to use clean needles when taking shots/vaccination
- Needles that have been in contact with an infected patient may still be stained with virus
-
Make sure blood donator is not infected by viruses when transfusing
As some viruses are capable of infecting other organisms through blood transmission, if insects such as mosquitoes manage to consume your blood with the same stylet (its needle to suck out blood) that consumed blood from an infected patient, it will infect you with the virus. Therefore:
-
Avoid Mosquitoes
-
Wear long sleeves and avoid getting bitten by Mosquitoes
